Ayurveda's Autumn Kitchen

Adjusting your food for the seasons, the Ayurvedic way

A live online workshop that helps you make food choices that support your health as summer leaves and autumn moves in.

Wednesday, September 9 · 18:00 CEST (12pm Eastern, 9am Pacific)
90 minutes · live on Zoom · €27 · recording included

Maybe you know this moment

Somewhere in September it happens. The days are getting shorter, temperatures are starting to drop and your body starts sending signals that seem to come out of nowhere. Your skin flares up, your sleep changes, or your digestion gets funky. Maybe old symptoms stir again, the ones you thought you had under control.

It can feel like it’s random, but it isn’t. The season is changing and your body responds to that, whether that works for you or not. The interesting question is what happens when you are able to work with this change. When you adjust what’s on your plate and how you prepare it, to what the season is doing in your body, instead of doing the same thing all year round.

That’s what this workshop is about. And we’re going to do it with real recipes, without cooking, in a very practical way.

What we’ll do together

We’ll explore, not cook. Ever notice how your salad in June leaves you bloated in October, or how the same breakfast feels grounding in winter but gives you acid reflux in late summer? That’s not something random. All foods have different tastes and qualities, which you’ll explore through the 5 spices you bring. You’ll taste and feel the effects in your body of the different spices, their heat, their dryness, their heaviness or lightness, the sweetness, spiciness or sourness. Kitchari, Ayurveda’s go-to meal when life is challenging, and porridge become your two testing grounds. We’ll work through the recipes together, adjusting them until they actually agree with your digestion this autumn. With this information you can choose more wisely what actually works for you, through your personal experience. That’s the power of working with gunas (qualities) and tastes (rasa), it’s an experiential language for understanding the effect of food on your body and using it as medicine.

Digestion works the same way. If an ordinary meal ever leaves you bloated, gassy, or without energy for the rest of the day, that’s usually your digestive fire (agni) telling you it’s struggling. Once you can recognize that bloating and gassiness are actually warning signals, you can use what you learn here to make choices that reduce those symptoms.

I’ll mention the doshas, but we won’t go into that rabbit hole. The gunas and rasa do the same job, but much simpler and you can feel them directly in your own body instead of trying to remember what you are supposed to do according to your dosha test.

What you take home

After the workshop you’ll receive a handout with everything we worked with: the qualities and tastes explained so you can keep using them, a short explanation of digestive fire, the five spices and autumn favourites food list with their properties, and the two full recipes, the kitchari and the porridge. Enough to start cooking with the season this same week. This way we keep things simple, which is most supportive for most bodies, instead of a whole list of supplements and superfoods that are not digestible.

You’ll also get the recording, so if you’re low on energy, unable to make it, or you live in a timezone where this is the middle of the night, nothing is lost.

This is for you if

You live with chronic symptoms, inflammation, or a digestion that has strong opinions. You’re tired of advice that treats your body like everyone else’s, instead of looking at your complex situation. Or you’re simply curious what this Ayurveda thing looks like when it’s applied to your actual daily life. You don’t need any Ayurvedic knowledge to join. You need a body, five specific kitchen spices, a bit of curiosity and an open mind to look at your food and your body in a different way.

Picture of Who is Teaching

Who is Teaching

I'm Rianne, Ayurvedic health counsellor and yoga therapist, with a science background and a chronic kidney condition that made all of this very personal. I've been adjusting my own kitchen to the seasons for years, my spice mixes change with the weather, my breakfast too, and it's one of the most reliable ways I know to stay at home in my body while everything around it changes.

Investment

€27, recording and handout included.

And if you want to go further

The workshop stands on its own. And, for those who feel like going deeper: in October I’m guiding the Autumn Digestive Reset, a month where we don’t just understand the adjusting, we go deeper into practicing it together, with support. If you decide to join after the workshop, your €27 counts toward the reset.

Whatever this particular autumn is asking of your body right now,
there’s a place for you here.

Disclaimer: this work serves complementary to your medical care, rather than a replacement for it. If you’re managing a diagnosed condition, please keep your doctor or specialist informed, and think of what you learn here as something to bring into that relationship.
