Probably not because of that

Small habit changes, how they effect your health and why we tend to say 'it's probably not because of that' while looking for something big.

Cooking and spicing breakfast

A new client of mine came to the Autumn Kitchen workshop a few weeks ago. As we spoke the other day, he told me it had inspired him to cook his breakfast with the spice mix added, instead of eating cold muesli with milk, yoghurt and cinnamon.
With hesitation in his voice he shared that he was feeling a bit lighter and a bit more energetic. That something felt different. Quickly followed by: “but it might not be because of that, because you never know what it is.”

Which sounds like a fair point, and I have thought that many times myself. My kidney results came back this week, and with a pounding heart I saw that they’re still stable, which for a kidney patient is the best kind of boring. We were moving and building a yurt, while studying and working with Ayurveda. I worked hard on keeping cool and maintaining my agni with the heat we had this summer.
So the idea of ‘you never know what it is’, is usually not true, it’s cause and effect.

Often, we don’t believe the routine, the spices or the cooked food is the fix, because it doesn’t look like medicine. We all eat every day, what difference does it make? It’s not very dramatic, nor that much of an effort necessarily. Changing when you eat, whether it’s cooked, and whether you can actually digest it, is the kind of thing that sounds too small to explain how you feel. So we look for the bigger cause, the one that would deserve the result.

Simple, warm, regular, repeat

But the body doesn’t keep score the way we do. It doesn’t need the fix to be impressive; it needs it to be nourished well, daily.

Simple, warm, regular, repeat, that’s what it responds to, and it responds slowly enough that by the time you notice, you’ve forgotten what you changed, and it seems to have magically disappeared again. Which is exactly why we say “probably not because of that.”

Taking your own steps towards relief

It is because of that. It’s almost always because of that.

If you’ve got your own “probably not,” something small you changed that actually over time has been working, I’d love to hear it, it’s so important to share these things, so we can inspire each other.

And in January we take our time to really figure out what your body needs in At Home In Your Body. Which sounds far away, so when you apply before October 20th, your intake happens in November, so you start before the group does. We can also always have a chat first, here.

Much love,
Rianne
