Tiredness when things aren’t right anymore
Most people who come to see me are already tired...
before we’ve even started talking during our consultation. They’ve been struggling with their condition for a long time and with the question of what they can do about it. They have the diagnoses and the medication, but what they’re missing is an idea of how they can regain control of their situation and their lives.
Over time, the condition takes up more and more of their lives, until it no longer feels like something they have, but something they are.
This reminds me of a client of mine. She felt constantly exhausted, suffered from brain fog, kept forgetting her keys and appointments, and was in pain often. She could barely lead the life she wanted. She’d been told that ‘this was just the way it was’ with her diagnoses and medication.
When we really went through her days together – what she ate, when she slept, how she went about a normal day – it became clear that the routine she’d been relying on for years no longer suited her body. In fact, that routine was working against her.
So she changed a few things. Warm, cooked meals instead of her regular raw salads. Boiled water instead of straight from the tap. Going to bed earlier rather than later. Simple things.
Her body responded more quickly
than either of us had expected. The fog lifted, her energy returned, the pain subsided, and the afternoon nap she’d always needed – which actually made her feel even more tired – was no longer necessary.
She said the difference was obvious, even though the changes were so simple.
That’s the moment I keep coming back to.
What would change if we looked at the whole person rather than just the condition? If you understood what your own body needs to have energy and fewer symptoms, and what is actually quietly working against that, and on top of that someone by your side to guide you through it?
Because when your choices regarding food, rest and exercise start to align with your body again, something shifts within you. The diagnosis might not disappear, but life starts to feel possible again. You have more energy, less pain and more control over your own days.
