Ayurveda's Autumn Kitchen

Adjusting your food for the seasons, the Ayurvedic way

A live online workshop about two simple meals, five spices, and what happens when summer leaves and autumn moves in.

Wednesday, September 9 · 18:00 CEST (12pm Eastern, 9am Pacific)
90 minutes · live on Zoom · €27 · recording included

Maybe you know this moment

Somewhere in September it happens. The days are getting shorter, temperatures are starting to drop and your body starts sending signals that seem to come out of nowhere. Your skin flares up, your sleep changes, or your digestion gets funky. Maybe old symptoms stir again, the ones you thought you had under control.

It can feel like it’s random, but it isn’t. The season is changing and your body responds to that, whether that works for you or not. The interesting question is what happens when you are able to work with this change. When you adjust what’s on your plate and how you prepare it, to what the season is doing in your body, instead of doing the same thing all year round.

That’s what this workshop is about. And we’re going to do it with real food, in a very practical way.

What we’ll do together

We’ll explore, not cook. I’ll share a short introduction to the qualities (gunas) and tastes (rasa) that Ayurveda works with, because once you understand those, it becomes a lot easier to figure out food questions yourself. You’ll hear a few sentences about your digestive fire (agni) and what happens when that becomes weaker, which for me is the key of how Ayurveda works. And yes, I’ll mention the doshas, but we won’t dive into them, because the qualities are much easier to work with and you can experience them directly.

Experiencing them directly is what we’ll do next. Before the workshop you’ll receive a short list of five spices to have ready. Simple kitchen spices that you probably already have in your kitchen. During the workshop we’ll smell and taste them together, so you can experience the gunas of each spice in your mouth and body.

Then we’ll dive deeper: together we’ll workshop two dishes. Porridge as breakfast and kitchari, Ayurveda’s go-to one-pot meal when life gets challenging, as the main meal, the autumn version. We’ll look at the qualities of the ingredients and what works well in autumn and why. You’ll discover how Ayurveda works with food and understand the reasoning behind it, so you can do it yourself with any recipe you love. Everything is adjustable to what your body can digest.

Bring your questions. I love an interactive workshop and we’ll have lots of time for that.

What you take home

After the workshop you’ll receive a handout with everything we worked with: the qualities and tastes explained so you can keep using them, a short explanation of digestive fire, the five spices and autumn favourites food list with their properties, and the two full recipes, the kitchari and the porridge. Enough to start cooking with the season this same week. This way we keep things simple, which is most supportive for most bodies, instead of a whole list of supplements and superfoods that are not digestible.

You’ll also get the recording, so if you’re low on energy, unable to make it, or you live in a timezone where this is the middle of the night, nothing is lost.

Picture of A little about me

A little about me

I'm Rianne, an Ayurvedic health counsellor, certified yoga therapist and someone who has been living with IgA nephropathy, a chronic autoimmune kidney condition, that was diagnosed in 2019. I also spent years dealing with anxiety attacks before finding my way through body-based work.

I have a background in molecular biology and over ten years in scientific research, which is part of why I love the classical Ayurvedic science and its logical approach.

I've been teaching therapeutic movement and sharing Ayurvedic principles for over ten years, through individual and group work, and the feedback I keep hearing is that small, specific changes make a bigger difference than people expected, and that simplicity and doing less are often the missing pieces.

I know what it's like to have a body that doesn't behave the way you want it to. I also know that it's rarely working against you, even when it feels that way.

Investment

€27, recording and handout included.

And if you want to go further

The workshop stands on its own. And, for those who feel like going deeper: in October I’m guiding the Autumn Digestive Reset, a month where we don’t just understand the adjusting, we go deeper into practicing it together, with support. If you decide to join after the workshop, your €27 counts toward the reset.
